Dr. Sabha Ganai is board-certified in public health, surgery, and complex general surgical oncology. An ethicist and educator, Dr. Sabha Ganai serves at Southern Illinois University as the director of gastrointestinal oncology. Dr. Ganai has received recognition for her work, including the 2014 Outstanding Surgical Educator of the Year award and the 2015 Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract (SSAT) Health Care Disparities Research award.
The Health Care Disparities Research award is granted to faculty members participating in disparities research in digestive illness and provides a yearly grant of $20,000 for two years. This award is provided to selected and qualifying investigators who have been appointed to a medical faculty for ten years and who are focused on studying issues such as the effect of access to healthcare, disability, and socioeconomic status on health and developing strategies to reduce disparities.
To be eligible for the award, investigators must be surgeons and have finished their clinical education in general surgery. They must also be in good standing with the SSAT and working within a faculty at a medical school that has been accredited by the Committee for Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools in Canada, the Liaison Committee on Medical Education in the United States, or an equivalent accrediting body.
